Glen David Andrews Plays Reston
New Orleans trombonist and singer Glen David Andrews performs two energetic sets at Reston Town Center in Reston, Virginia. In each set, he led a second-line parade up the aisles, much like they still do in his hometown of Treme, in the sixth ward of New Orleans.
He and his band added some local flavor to the show, accompanied by three fantastic gospel singers from the Howard University Gospel Choir. His set included a little gospel and a lot of traditional New Orleans funk and jazz, including "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Basin Street Blues," "St. James Infirmary," and "Iko Iko."
He would not take no for an answer when it came to crowd participation. Perhaps the most heartwarming moment came when he broke into "You Are My Sunshine" and invited a couple dozen young children on stage, who sang the chorus with him into the mic. Folks were cheering, clapping, and dancing all night.
